What are the fundraising trends to look out for?
^ I get asked this question quite a bit.
Pre-pandemic, never would I have guessed how accelerated these changes would come. As we all know, there is no going back to the old and expensive way of fundraising. Behaviors are changing and we need to adapt.
Here are the three trends I talked about that have drastically transformed the nonprofit community already:
1. Event fundraising will become a smaller piece of the pie. I didn't realize this would be so true already, but orgs have had to reimagine what their big fundraising events look like.
What I love about this is that we are seeing costs go down which is helping margins, but we're also seeing WAY more being raised.
2. Create more content. To thrive online, nonprofits need to be creating compelling and fresh content for their audience.
Show us impact. Show us you are the leading expert on your issue.
3. Goodbye silent auctions. Revenue from this channel has been on a constant decline.
Nonprofits should not be hosting garage sales. The time and energy that goes into this usually do not justify the ROI. Instead, create value that no object could provide your donors.
This is the new normal.
