Justin is Funraise's CEO, a co-founder, and a bad-ass, experienced nonprofit fundraiser. Like a true fundraiser-turned-founder, he breaks down the concepts behind Funraise's mission everywhere he can make nonprofits' voices heard.

You can't stop all cyberattacks.
If a company or vendor tells you they can, they're lying.

Unfortunately, Blackbaud, a technology platform for nonprofits, was the latest victim of such attacks. Donor information was stolen and organizations around the world were notified in mid-July about this security breach.

Technology providers need to do better, but so do YOU.

Most nonprofits don't realize that they play a MASSIVE role in mitigating cyberattacks. It all starts with creating a culture around security.

Here's how to get started:

👉🏽 Make sure the systems you are using don't have too many admins.

👉🏽 Every system you use should have two-factor authentication and everyone must be required to turn it on.

👉🏽 Only connect to secure networks. Without the proper software, you should never be working on public WiFi.

👉🏽 Don't reuse passwords. Don't share passwords. Instead, use a password manager like LastPass.

👉🏽 Your computer should always be locked when unattended.

👉🏽 Be suspicious. If you weren't expecting that email or request from your boss, verify it before clicking.

Everyone needs to be vigilant.
This is not the role of any one person at your org.
